Introduction to Dr. Ambrocio
Dr. Deryll Ambrocio is a refreshing new face amongst the small group of rheumatologists in Hawaii. After working as a staff rheumatologist at a multispecialty medical clinic in Colonial Heights, VA, Dr. Ambrocio decided to move back home in 2009 to serve the people of Hawaii. He established Deryll U. Ambrocio, M.D., Inc. and as its President, he is dedicated to providing high quality care. His main office is at Waterfront Plaza in Honolulu where he sees patients during the majority of his clinic time. In March 2010, in response to the growing need for rheumatology services on the west side of Oahu, he established a satellite clinic and continues to see patients there once a week.
In his academic appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, Dr. Ambrocio devotes some of his time teaching medical students and residents during their one-month rheumatology elective in his private office. He also works with internal medicine residents two half-days a month in the rheumatology clinic at Queen Emma Clinics where he is able to do more teaching. With his interest in academics, he has also given multiple grand rounds and continuing medical education lectures for the UH Internal Medicine Residency Program, Queen’s Medical Center, and Philippine Medical Association of Hawaii. He has also enjoyed giving talks to the general public at the Kailua YMCA and 2010 Taking Control of Your Diabetes Conference and Health Fair.
Dr. Ambrocio grew up in Kalihi where he graduated from Farrington High School, home of the Governors. He received his B.S. in Biology at Seattle University, a Jesuit university, before attending the John A. Burns School of Medicine where he earned his medical degree in 2003. He completed his internal medicine residency training here in Hawaii in 2006 then attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville where he trained in a two-year rheumatology fellowship program. His strong interest and expertise lie in clinical rheumatology. Dr. Ambrocio is Board Certified in internal medicine and rheumatology. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology.
On a personal note, Dr. Ambrocio is devoted to health and wellness and balances his busy schedule with activities such as hiking, running and weightlifting. He grew up in a bilingual home and is able to speak Ilocano fluently.
